AASHE Advisory Council

AASHE’s Advisory Council supports the organization’s growth and development and advises the board of directors and staff on complex or specialized matters as well as general programmatic goals and direction.

Advisory Council members must be firmly committed to the goals and success of AASHE. In addition members must possess knowledge of the principles of sustainability, a strong commitment to a just and sustainable society, and an interest in improving the learning experience of students.

Roles & Responsibilities of Members

  • Provide advice on programs and strategic direction to the board of directors and staff.
  • Promote AASHE to colleagues and connect the organization with leaders who can assist in advancing the organization’s mission.
  • Solicit funding through memberships, donations, grants, sponsorships, and in-kind contributions.
  • Sponsor/support AASHE activities and attend AASHE-sponsored events.
  • Hold at least one meeting by phone each year and attend AASHE’s annual business meeting to help develop and carry out a business strategy for AASHE.
  • Promote linkages between higher education and businesses, nonprofits, and government.
  • Provide feedback regarding curriculum development, collaborative projects, and internship programs.

Structure

  • The Advisory Council will consist of 20-25 leaders from higher education, business, nonprofit, and government sectors, selected and voted on by the Board of Directors.
  • Term of service is two years, renewable.
  • Membership in AASHE by a member’s institution or business is required (with exceptions made in some circumstances).
  • The chair of the Advisory Council will be appointed by the Board of Directors; the Advisory Council will recommend a candidate to the Board.
  • The chair will serve a term of two years, renewable, and will serve on the Board of Directors during that time.
