AASHE releases new version of campus sustainability rating system

AASHE is excited to announce the release of the latest version of STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System). STARS is a collaborative effort to develop a formal rating system for campus sustainability, with standards by which institutions may measure themselves and qualify for different levels of recognition.

STARS 0.5 (pdf) includes credits in three categories: Education and Research, Operations, and Administration and Finance. Each credit includes a criteria, guidance, and documentation section. The document also includes several discussion sections that highlight changes made since the previous draft and outstanding questions and issues with the system.

Feedback on the previous draft of STARS has been extremely helpful in strengthening the system. Additional input from the campus sustainability community will help build a stronger system. Instructions for reviewers are included in the beginning of the document.

Please send questions and feedback to stars@aashe.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
