Recyclemania Kickoff

posted by Andrea Webster on January 31st, 2008      Go to comments    Email This Post

Recyclemania began this week, January 27th to be more specific, with a record 400 schools participating!! Whewee! The competition started in 2001 with just 2 schools - Miami University (of Ohio) and Ohio University. Here’s a graph Recyclemania has posted on their website which shows participation and the number of pounds recycled each year since the initiation.

Kudos to Miami University and Ohio University for creating this much of an impact!! Isn’t it inspiring?

This year, California, New York, and Pennsylvania are at the top of lists for record number of participants.

Here are some articles relating to the recent kick off:

University of Wisconsin - Stout

Bates College

Western Michigan University

Ithaca College

University of Pennsylvania

Allegheny College

I’d like to hear what your school is doing to promote Recyclemania on your campus!

Colorado State will be hosting a kick-off event on Feb. 5, 2008. It will be something you have to see to believe…

Once again there is a residence hall recycling competition, but new this year is a “Become a Maniac” campaign, as well as a Facebook group and MySpace page.
